Hotel Description
You know what struck me first about Apartament New Cathedral? The address alone tells you everything – Federico Rubio is one of those narrow cobblestone streets that feels like you’ve stepped back about 500 years, except you’re literally a three-minute walk from the cathedral. I mean, you can practically hear the bells from your window, which is either charming or mildly annoying depending on how much you care about sleeping past 8 AM.
The thing about staying in Seville’s old town is that you’re trading convenience for atmosphere, but honestly, this place nails both. The apartment itself feels genuinely lived-in rather than sterile – there’s character in the thick walls and traditional tiles, but someone clearly put thought into the modern touches. The kitchen actually works (shocking, I know, for a European rental), and the air conditioning is a godsend during those brutal July afternoons when the city basically shuts down for siesta. What I really appreciated was the little balcony – nothing fancy, but perfect for morning coffee while watching the neighborhood wake up. You’ll see locals heading to the corner bakery, tourists already sweating through their walking tours, and the occasional horse-drawn carriage clip-clopping past.
Location-wise, you’re in that sweet spot where you can stumble home from the tapas bars around Plaza del Salvador without needing a taxi, but you’re not directly on the main tourist drag getting serenaded by street performers until midnight. The Alcázar is maybe a seven-minute walk – I timed it because I’m neurotic like that – and you can reach the Guadalquivir riverfront in about the same time if you need to escape the maze of medieval streets. Fair warning though: parking is basically nonexistent unless you book a spot at the underground garage near Plaza de Armas, which runs about 20 euros a day. But honestly, once you’re settled in this neighborhood, you won’t need a car anyway. The whole historic center is walkable, and there’s something addictive about getting slightly lost in those winding alleys before stumbling onto some gorgeous hidden plaza. I kept finding myself taking longer routes just to soak it all in – the way afternoon light hits those ochre buildings, the smell of orange blossoms in spring, the sound of flamenco drifting from random doorways. That 9.1 rating makes perfect sense once you experience how seamlessly this place fits into the rhythm of old Seville.
