Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Seville, and Apartamentos Cano y Cueto honestly surprised me in the best way possible. When you first walk up to this building on Calle Cano y Cueto – which, by the way, is this narrow cobblestone street that feels like stepping back in time – you might wonder if you’re in the right place. It’s tucked into the Santa Cruz neighborhood so seamlessly that you’d walk right past it if you weren’t looking. But that’s actually the beauty of it.
The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that hits you. I mean, you’re literally a three-minute walk from the Cathedral (I timed it because I’m weird like that), but somehow the thick walls of this old building just absorb all the tourist chatter from outside. The apartments themselves are what I’d call sophisticated without trying too hard – think exposed brick details and modern fixtures that actually work properly, which… let’s be honest, isn’t always a given in historic Seville buildings. The kitchenettes are small but smartly designed, and you know what? Having coffee on my little balcony each morning while watching locals head to work became this unexpected ritual I looked forward to.
What really sets this place apart though is the location knowledge you get just by staying here. Your neighbors aren’t other tourists – they’re actual Sevillanos going about their daily lives. The guy at the corner bar (literally 30 seconds away) started recognizing me by day three and would have my café con leche ready before I even ordered. You’re positioned perfectly to explore the Jardines de Murillo when they’re quiet in the early morning – most people don’t realize the gardens are practically empty at 8 AM and absolutely magical. Plus, being on the edge of Santa Cruz means you can easily escape the crowds when the tour groups descend around 10 AM. I actually found myself using the apartment as a midday retreat more than once, especially during that brutal afternoon heat in summer. The 9.3 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there – it’s one of those places that gets all the practical stuff right (strong wifi, excellent water pressure, air conditioning that doesn’t sound like a freight train) while still feeling authentically Sevillano. Just heads up though – bring good walking shoes because these cobblestones are beautiful but unforgiving, and don’t expect to find it easily on your first try. GPS gets a little confused in this part of the old town.
