You know what? I walked past Apartamentos “El Escondite de María” about three times before I actually found it – and honestly, that’s part of its charm. The name literally means “María’s Hiding Place,” which feels pretty perfect when you’re tucked away on this narrow cobblestone street in the heart of Seville’s old town. Calle Doña María Coronel isn’t one of those tourist-packed thoroughfares, but it’s literally a two-minute walk from the Cathedral and Giralda. I mean, you can hear the bells from your window, but it’s not the kind of place where tour groups are stomping around at 7 AM.

The building itself has that weathered Andalusian look – you know, the kind where the white walls have absorbed decades of Spanish sun and the iron balconies look like they’ve got stories to tell. What really got me was how quiet it stays despite being so central. The apartments face an internal courtyard (classic Seville style), so you get that authentic patio experience without the street noise. The owner, María – and yes, there’s actually a María – seems to know everyone in the neighborhood. She’ll casually mention that the best tapas spot is around the corner on Calle Alemanes, or that Thursday mornings get a bit hectic because of the local market setup. These are the details you just don’t get from big hotel chains.

Each apartment feels like someone’s actual home rather than a sterile rental. The kitchens are small but functional – perfect for making coffee and storing those amazing olives you’ll inevitably buy too many of. The beds are comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms have decent water pressure, which honestly can be hit-or-miss in these historic buildings. Air conditioning works well too, and trust me, you’ll need it if you’re visiting between June and September. The Wi-Fi is solid, parking… well, you’re in the old town, so forget about parking nearby. But the tram stop at Plaza Nueva is a five-minute walk, and from there you can get pretty much anywhere.

What really sets this place apart is the 9.3 rating it’s earned – and after staying here, I get it. It’s those little touches that make the difference. Fresh towels that actually smell good, local restaurant recommendations that aren’t tourist traps, and María checking in just enough to be helpful without being intrusive. The location means you’re walking distance from everything that matters – the Alcázar, the cathedral, those winding streets of Santa Cruz where you’ll get delightfully lost. But you’re also close enough to cross the river to Triana for some serious flamenco, or head to the Alameda area when you want to hang out where the locals actually go. It’s not the cheapest option in Seville, but for the location and the authentic experience, it’s worth every euro.

    Carlos was a wonderful host, he responded when we needed assistance, the property had appliances (except washing / dryer) so we found a laundry and washed our own clothes. There was a supermarket close by, taxi stand 6-7 minutes away or call, remember streets are narrower and many are one way.

    What could be improved: No washing machine, had to find laundry, half a day lost. Could have had more coffee pods, we stayed 5 nights but needed another change of towels, Carlos provided when requested.

    The apartment is in a central area located near a lot of restaurants, bars, caffees, bus stations. There is a supermarket just around the corner and two private parking garages about 3-4 min walk. They provide all the necessary amenities, it is spatios and clean. We were in ap 002, so we were facing the back, therefore it was quiet, no street noise. I recommend staying here.

    The host/staff were so warm and welcoming. The apartment was in a great location not too far away from anything but also quiet. The kitchenette was convenient and any very small issue we had the staff helped us right away. It was also very safe.
