You know what caught me off guard about Calma Places? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – it really is calming in a way that’s hard to explain. I mean, you’re literally steps from the cathedral (I could hear the bells from my patio), but somehow this little courtyard complex feels like you’ve discovered some hidden pocket of old Seville that the tour groups haven’t figured out yet.

The building itself is one of those converted mansion situations that could go either way, but they’ve done it right here. Each room opens onto these gorgeous interior patios – and I’m talking proper Andalusian courtyards with the tile work and fountains, not some sad concrete attempt. Mine had orange trees, which sounds almost too perfect to be real, but there you go. The rooms are definitely more spacious than what you’d expect in the old town, with those impossibly high ceilings that keep everything cool even when it’s blazing outside. Honestly, the air conditioning hardly seemed necessary, which was a relief because you know how some places blast it so hard you can’t think straight.

What I really appreciated was how they’ve kept the original details without making it feel like a museum. The floors are this beautiful old tile that’s clearly been there forever, but everything else – the bathrooms, the kitchenettes, the WiFi – actually works like it should. And speaking of practical stuff, the location is pretty brilliant if you know Seville at all. You’re on this quiet side street off Calle Santa Vicenta María, so you don’t get the noise from the main tourist drags, but you can walk to the cathedral in maybe three minutes. The Santa Cruz neighborhood is right there too, though honestly, I found myself just hanging out in the patios most evenings with a bottle of wine from the little shop around the corner. There’s something about the way the light hits those courtyards around sunset – you’ll see what I mean. The staff was refreshingly normal too, not overly chatty but genuinely helpful when I needed restaurant recommendations that weren’t the usual tourist traps. They pointed me toward this tiny tapas place on Calle Mateos Gago that I never would have found otherwise.

  I would choose to stay here each time I’m in Seville. It’s a very nice appartment, clean, fully equiped with all you need. Even if it’s situated in the heart of Seville you are well protected from the noise because it’s a quiet street. There are many stores and restaurants nearby. I also apreciated the attention to details on the furniture and also about lightning.

  The property is very clean, spacious and beautiful. It has a lovely modern decor. I had some problems locating the property (my own mistake) and had to call the host after hours, they were very responsive and helpful; they patiently guided me and checked up again later on too – definitely excellent service.
