You know that moment when you stumble onto a street in Seville and think “this is exactly what I pictured”? That’s Calle Bailén for you. Casa Bailen Sevilla sits right there at number 17, and honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better spot to land in the old town. The building itself has this understated elegance – it’s not trying too hard to be boutique-y, but you can tell someone put real thought into the details.

What really got me was how quiet it stays despite being so central. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the Cathedral (and I actually timed it because I’m weird like that), but somehow the street doesn’t get that tourist stampede you’d expect. The rooms face inward mostly, which means you’re not dealing with the clip-clop of horse carriages at dawn – trust me, that’s a thing in Seville and it will wake you up. The staff actually knows the neighborhood, too. Not just the obvious stuff like “turn left for the Alcázar,” but useful intel like which tapas place stays open late on Sundays (spoiler: most don’t) and where to find parking that won’t cost you a fortune.

The whole place feels authentic without being stuffy about it. Sure, it’s got that traditional Andalusian courtyard thing going on, but they’ve managed to keep it from feeling like a museum. The tiles are gorgeous – I spent an embarrassing amount of time photographing the patterns – and there’s this nice mix of old architecture with modern touches that actually work. Breakfast happens in this bright space that catches the morning light just right, and they do proper coffee, not that watery hotel stuff. I appreciated that they don’t blast the air conditioning either; in summer you’ll want it cool, but they seem to understand that not everyone wants to feel like they’re in a refrigerator. The 9.2 rating makes sense once you’re there – it’s not flashy luxury, but everything works exactly as it should. You get the feeling they’ve figured out what travelers actually need versus what looks good in photos. If you’re planning to explore the old town on foot (which you should), this is the kind of place where you’ll actually look forward to coming back each evening instead of just using it as a crash pad.

  I stayed in Apt #6 on the second floor, the apartment with the dividing wall between the bed and the living room area. I absolutely loved the apartment. There were so many nice little touches: the lighting, various shutters either providing light or darkness depending on the need, the shower with rainfall or spray option, the well designed kitchen, the sofa, a television for the living room area and another for the bed, and the keypads instead of keys. Best of all everything was functional. The staff was very friendly and the area was perfect. No problems with noise.

  Great location. Very comfortable apartment.
  
  What could be improved: Our apartment was ground floor and our bedroom window was directly onto the street outside and very exposed unless you had the curtains or shutters closed and blocked out the light. Same into hallway. Some translucent film on lower section of glazing would solve it!
