You know what struck me first about Casa Palacio Doña Guiomar? The moment you step through those heavy wooden doors on Calle Zaragoza, the city noise just… disappears. I mean, you’re literally in the heart of Seville’s old quarter – close enough to the Cathedral that you can hear the bells if you listen – but this place feels like a secret. The building itself is this gorgeous 19th-century palace, and honestly, they’ve done something really smart with the renovation. It’s not one of those places where they’ve scrubbed away all the character for the sake of modern amenities. The original tiles are still there, these incredible geometric patterns that catch the light differently throughout the day, and the central courtyard – well, that’s where you’ll probably end up spending your evenings with a glass of wine, watching the jasmine vines twist around the columns.

The rooms are what you’d expect from a proper 4-star place, but with personality. Mine overlooked the internal patio (which I actually preferred to the street-facing ones – trust me on this, Calle Zaragoza can get lively at night), and the bathroom had this massive rainfall shower that felt like pure luxury after long days wandering around the Barrio Santa Cruz. Speaking of location, you’re about a three-minute walk from the Alcázar, maybe five to the Cathedral, and – this is key – you’re close enough to Plaza de Armas that you can catch buses to other parts of the city without dealing with the maze of tiny streets with a suitcase. The staff here actually knows the neighborhood, too. When I asked about dinner recommendations, they didn’t just hand me a tourist brochure – they sent me to this little tapas place on Calle Aire that I never would’ve found otherwise.

Here’s what I really appreciated: the building has this sense of calm that’s hard to find in Seville’s center. The courtyard stays cool even in summer (something about the way the architecture channels the breeze), and there’s this subtle scent of orange blossoms that drifts through the common areas. It’s not perfect – the WiFi can be spotty in some rooms, and if you’re on the ground floor, you might hear footsteps from the patio above – but these feel like minor trade-offs for staying somewhere with actual soul. The 8.9 rating makes sense when you experience it; it’s the kind of place that gets the big things right while still feeling intimate and locally rooted. If you’re looking for a generic hotel experience, this isn’t it. But if you want to feel like you’re staying in a piece of Seville’s history while still having all the modern comforts, Casa Palacio Doña Guiomar delivers in ways that matter.

  It was very clean and very central. We stayed for a few days and walked everywhere. Air condition worked great. Supermarket and bars close. Sometimes the road outside was a bit noisy but absolutely nothing hindering rest or sleep. Our host came to greet us and let us in even though we arrived late.
  
  What could be improved: Our host expected us to have WhatsApp, which I had trouble downloading. A little trouble with initial communication. We could text normally, but replies were scarce. We had to drop off the keys to the apartment at a hotel some 400 m away.

  We really loved staying in this spotlessly clean, quiet, comfortable and spacious apartment. The main building was a delight, too.
  It is in the heart of the city and everything is in an easy walking distance.
