You know what caught me off guard about Genteel Home San Francisco Suites? The name is honestly a bit confusing at first – I mean, you’re in the heart of Seville’s old quarter, not California – but once you’re standing in that gorgeous Plaza de San Francisco, it all makes sense. The building itself has this understated elegance that feels more like staying at a well-connected local’s apartment than a typical hotel. I walked up expecting another cookie-cutter place, but the suites actually have character – high ceilings, traditional tiles that aren’t trying too hard, and windows that frame the plaza like you’re living in a postcard.

The location is honestly what makes this place special, though the 9.2 rating doesn’t hurt either. You’re literally steps from the Cathedral (and I mean literally – you can hear the bells if you’re a light sleeper), but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the tour group chaos at 8 AM. The plaza itself is one of those spots where locals actually hang out, not just tourists taking selfies. There’s this little tapas bar right across the way where the owner – Miguel, I think – remembers your order after two visits. The Alcázar is maybe a three-minute walk, but here’s the thing nobody tells you: go early or late, because the midday crowds are absolutely brutal. From your suite, you can actually watch the tour groups ebb and flow and time your visits perfectly.

What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to get that you’re here to experience Seville, not just check boxes. The check-in was smooth – no hovering or overselling – and they had actual recommendations, not just the obvious stuff. The woman at the front desk told me about this tiny ceramics shop tucked behind the cathedral that I never would have found otherwise. The suites themselves are well-appointed without being fussy, and honestly, the air conditioning works better than some four-star places I’ve stayed at (crucial during those sweltering August afternoons). The only minor thing is that the street-facing rooms can get a bit lively on weekend nights – Sevillanos know how to party – but that’s part of the charm, really. Plus, if you’re the type who needs dead silence to sleep, you probably shouldn’t be staying in the old quarter anyway. For a three-star place, it punches way above its weight, and the location alone makes it worth booking ahead, especially during Semana Santa or the April Fair when everything decent gets snatched up.

  Perfect location, stunning modern interior, necessities provided (coffee, tea, washing powder etc!) would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone. We travel ed with 2 yo and cot and high chair were provided too!

  What could be improved: The negative about being in such a central location is the noise. Church bells all the way through the night and construction for an event right outside from early morning.

  Great location. Very well maintained. The bed was very comfortable and the little kitchenette was very useful. The roof terrace was fabulous, well looked after and lovely sunny warm place in mid January.
  
  What could be improved: No cloths for drying dishes. Apparently a hygiene issue but unusual for rentals.

  What could be improved: Having to move due to power outage in building. Church bells lovely but not every hour and half hour throughout the night. Otherwise great.

  The location could not be bettered – central, lovely view, yet high above the crowd and lively street noise. The apartment is stylish and very comfortable – they get all the major things right.
  
  What could be improved: Just a few small things that could easily be fixed – no shelf in the shower for soap or shampoo ( tricky!), no ice making compartment in the otherwise ample fridge (I needed an ice pack for a sprained ankle, and had to go begging for ice to the bar next door). Main door code was long and a bit of a worry to remember. But don't hesitate to stay there!

  Location is perfect, in the middle of the city center, the view was amazing! We’ve enjoyed the terrace every night.
