Look, I’ve stayed in a lot of places in Seville, and honestly? Genteel Home Tomás de Ibarra caught me off guard in the best way possible. You know how sometimes you book a place based on location and just hope it doesn’t suck? Well, this one actually delivers on both fronts – and I mean, you’re literally in the heart of the old town here, like proper old Seville where the streets still smell faintly of orange blossoms and history.

The thing about this place is that it feels like someone’s actual home – which I guess makes sense given the name, right? But seriously, from the moment you walk through that traditional Sevillian entrance (you know, the kind where you’re not entirely sure you’re in the right place until suddenly you are), there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cares about the details. The courtyard – because of course there’s a courtyard, this is Andalusia – has these gorgeous tiles that look original, and honestly, the acoustics are perfect for that gentle fountain sound without being annoying at 6 AM when you’re trying to sleep off too much Cruzcampo from the night before. I stayed there during April, which, let me tell you, is when Seville really comes alive, and despite being right in the thick of things on Calle Tomás de Ibarra, the rooms are surprisingly quiet. The walls are thick – proper thick, not modern-hotel-pretending-to-be-charming thick.

What really got me though was how the staff actually knew the neighborhood. I mean, they didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map and call it a day. The guy at reception – I think his name was Miguel? – he told me about this tiny bar around the corner on Calle Albareda where locals go for montaditos, and honestly, it became my regular spot for the rest of the week. That’s the kind of insider knowledge you just don’t get at chain hotels. The rooms themselves are beautifully done – sort of modern comfort meets traditional Sevillian style without feeling like a theme park version of itself, if you know what I mean. My bathroom had these gorgeous hand-painted tiles, and the shower pressure was actually decent, which, let’s be real, isn’t always a given in historic buildings. The only minor thing – and I’m being picky here – is that the WiFi can be a bit spotty in some corners of the building, but honestly, you’re in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Europe, so maybe just put the phone down for a bit? You can walk to the Cathedral in maybe eight minutes, the Alcázar is right there, and you’re close enough to the river that evening strolls along the Guadalquivir become this effortless part of your routine. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’re actually experiencing Seville rather than just checking it off a list – and with a 9.1 rating, apparently I’m not the only one who thinks so.

  Very centrally located to historic sites

  Location: less than a 5 minute walk to/from the airport bus stop; within 60 seconds of leaving the apartment, there is the cathedral, a major avenue of shops, lots of little side streets and cafes/bars. We were absolutely thrilled with where the apt. was located, especially since wandering around to see the wonderful Christmas lights was a major reason in our being there in mid-December. Despite the fact that on the street could be noisy, the apartment itself was very quiet. The apartment windows looked on to a small inner courtyard – nothing to look at but it was quiet. It was also an easy location to pop back to for a siesta (!) or to drop off some shopping, etc.
  Facilities: although the kitchen was small, it had everything we needed and more – regular size fridge-freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, induction stove-top, microwave, toaster, coffee machine etc. Perfect for somebody who wants to be able to prepare some or all of their meals. The bed was comfy and there were extra pillows and blankets available. The elevator was right outside our door (no issue with noise from that either). The heating system, water pressure and temperature, etc. all worked as expected.
  Cleanliness: 5/5 Simply excellent.
  Communication: We were contacted by WhatsApp several times in advance of our stay and were able to communicate when we were on the street looking for the building! Victor greeted us at the building and took us through the apartment, pointing out everything that we needed to know. Extra details were available by scanning a QR code.
  
  What could be improved: The only thing that could be clearer is the format that the address is given in order to find the building on the street on the day. Explicitly: Street name… Building number… Floor number… Apartment number… Google Maps (for me) wasn't clear on which side of the road the building was. The info received from booking.com did have the relevant numbers but it wasn't clear to me, as a visitor to the country, what they related to in the sequence they were given.

  The apartment is located near all major landmarks in Seville – the catedral, the castle and walking distance to parks. The apartment is clean, has comfortable beds and it is well maintained. It was somewhat quiet ( for Spain) during the night. You don't need to use any transport as the apartment is in the city center. The hosts were very kind and helpful. Overall, recommend staying at this place.

  Central apartment just a couple of minutes' walk from the cathedral and Alcázar – couldn't ask for a better location! Clean, comfortable and well-equipped with everything we needed for our three-night stay – would also be a great choice for a longer break. The staff of Genteel Home are super helpful and always available by WhatsApp, which we appreciated.
  
  What could be improved: There was a slight smell of drains in the bathroom but it didn't detract too much from our stay.

  Very clean apartment with all that you need. Comfortable beds including sofa. They cleaned it in the middle of the stay and changed towels and bed linen. The location is extremely central but the apartment overlooks the patio and is very quiet. Air-conditioning worked well to warm up the apartment in the evening. Also, very close to bus stop for bus AE to/from airport.
