Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Malhara? It’s tucked away on this narrow cobblestone street in Seville’s old quarter where you can actually hear the click of heels echoing off the walls at night – but somehow it doesn’t feel touristy. I mean, you’re literally surrounded by centuries-old architecture, but this place manages to feel like a local secret even though it’s right in the thick of things.

The building itself is one of those converted historic gems that could easily go wrong, but they’ve nailed it here. Walking into the lobby, there’s this perfect balance of old Sevillian character – think exposed brick and traditional tiles – mixed with modern touches that don’t try too hard. The staff actually knows the neighborhood, which sounds basic but honestly isn’t always a given. When I asked about avoiding the tourist crowds at the Cathedral (which is basically around the corner), they pointed me toward this side entrance locals use during certain hours. That kind of intel is worth its weight in gold when you’re dealing with Seville’s summer heat and cruise ship crowds.

What really won me over was how they handle the practical stuff without making a big deal about it. The rooms are genuinely quiet – no small feat when you’re this central and the streets below turn into impromptu flamenco stages some evenings. The AC actually works (crucial in Seville, trust me), and there’s this attention to detail that feels… well, thoughtful rather than flashy. Like, they stock local olive oil and jamón in the little kitchenettes, not generic hotel snacks. The beds are comfortable enough that I actually slept past sunrise, which rarely happens to me in Spain.

Here’s the thing about the location – you’re a five-minute walk from the Cathedral and Alcázar, but you’re also stumbling distance from some of the best tapas bars that tourists never find. There’s this tiny place called El Rinconcillo just down the street that’s been serving the same family recipes since 1670, and honestly, discovering spots like that is what makes a trip memorable. The hotel sits right in that sweet spot where you can walk everywhere that matters, but you’re not paying premium prices for being directly on the main plaza where tour groups gather at dawn.

I’d say the only minor downside is parking – like most of Seville’s old town, you’re better off ditching the car entirely. But that’s more about the medieval street layout than the hotel itself. The staff will sort out parking arrangements if you need them, though it’s easier to just embrace the walking life while you’re here. After a few days of wandering these narrow streets and popping into random courtyards, you’ll get why Sevillanos move at their own pace.

Bottom line: if you want to feel like you’re staying in the real Seville without sacrificing comfort or dealing with quirky old building problems, Malhara gets it right. It’s polished enough for travelers who want things to work smoothly, but authentic enough that you feel connected to the city’s actual rhythm.

    What could be improved: Nothing

The apartment is in a great location close to the Cathedral and is surrounded by a tourist area with a great many restaurants. There is a Carrefour supermarket 2 minutes away.

The property has a large well lit dining/living room, a well equipped kitchen with a dishwasher and a washing machine. Bathroom is not small and the bathroom vanity is roomy. There is a rooftop terrace with an umbrella to enjoy evenings when you're staying in.

In general, the property is in a good condition though there are minor issues. WiFi works well.

What could be improved: No major issues, but there are a number of annoyances. They were small things for us but I'm listing everything here in case they may be important for someone.

A few lights were out during our visit.

The ceilings are high and the wardrobe in the bedroom is built for that height. Shorter people may find it difficult to reach for the hanger bar.

The shower stall in the bathroom has no door! It takes a great effort not to flood the bathroom when showering.

The electric outlets in the bedroom are located in the middle of the headboards. I don't know how to charge anything there while sleeping.

The staircase to the terrace is very steep and the steps are narrow. It should be fine for most people but it certainly is not for everyone.

    Mattresses are quite hard.
