You know what struck me first about Matahacas Pool & Luxury? The name actually makes sense when you see it – there’s this gorgeous rooftop pool that honestly feels like finding a secret oasis in the middle of Seville’s old quarter. I mean, you’re literally on Calle Matahacas, which most tourists never even notice because it’s tucked between the main drags, but that’s exactly why this place works so well.

The location is pretty brilliant if you think about it. You’re close enough to the Cathedral and Alcázar that you can walk there in maybe ten minutes (though good luck in July heat), but far enough from the main tourist chaos that you can actually sleep at night. The street itself is narrow and typical old Seville – those gorgeous buildings that look like they’ve been there forever, with just enough morning shadow to keep things cool until the afternoon sun really kicks in. Parking is… well, it’s Seville’s old town, so forget your rental car and embrace the walking life. The hotel staff actually knows which nearby garages won’t completely rob you, which is more helpful than you’d think.

What really sets this place apart is how they’ve managed to feel luxurious without being stuffy – I’ve stayed at plenty of four-star places that try too hard, but there’s something refreshingly honest about Matahacas. The rooms have that perfect balance of traditional Andalusian character (think exposed beams and tiles that have some actual history) mixed with modern stuff that actually works – the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a jet engine, the shower has proper pressure, and the beds are genuinely comfortable, not just expensive-looking. But honestly, you’ll spend most of your time either exploring the neighborhood or up on that rooftop pool area. It’s not huge, but it doesn’t need to be, and the views over the old town rooftops are the kind of thing you’ll actually remember years later. The poolside service is solid too – they know how to make a proper gin and tonic, which matters more than it should when you’re trying to cool down after a day wandering around the Santa Cruz quarter. The 8.5 rating feels about right to me – it’s genuinely good without being perfect, and the imperfections (like the slightly tricky elevator and the fact that some rooms get street noise in the early morning) are the kind you can live with when everything else clicks.

  Well equipped apartment. Large, comfortable bed. Overall, very comfortable stay not far from all the monuments.

  Matahacas was spacious, stylish and comfortable. Ideal for a couple. Easy access to cafes, supermarkets and public transport but very quiet at night time. Access to a washing machine was a most welcome feature for those on extended travel holidays. Great communal area for outside drinks or just lazing by the pool.
  
  What could be improved: At first the shower wasn't working but we contacted the managers electronically and they remedied the problem immediately.

  The apartment was large and well stocked with a comfy bed. Great location on a quiet road but super close to lots of bars, restaurants etc. It was walking difference to everywhere we needed to go. Nice decor and beautiful courtyard.
