Mercer Plaza Sevilla 5 GL Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of fancy hotels in Seville, but the Mercer Plaza really gets it right in ways that surprised me. First off, you’re literally on Plaza de San Francisco – I mean, you step outside and you’re looking at the town hall and basically in the heart of everything that matters in the old quarter. But here’s the thing that caught me off guard: despite being right in the thick of it, the rooms are surprisingly quiet. The building itself has this solid, historic feel that somehow buffers the street noise, which honestly was my biggest worry when I booked.
The staff actually knows the neighborhood – not just the tourist stuff, but they’ll point you toward the little tapas place around the corner on Calle Álvarez Quintero that locals hit up, or tell you which entrance to use for the cathedral to skip the longest lines. The concierge (I think his name was Carlos?) spent like ten minutes with me going over the best walking route to the Alcázar that avoids the main crush of tour groups. You know what I really appreciated? They have this small courtyard area where you can actually sit with a coffee in the morning without feeling like you’re on display – a lot of these central hotels forget that sometimes you want to chill without being in the middle of a parade route.
The rooms themselves feel properly luxurious without being stuffy about it. Mine had these tall windows that let in amazing light, and the bathroom – well, let’s just say the shower pressure was better than what I have at home. The bed was one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed. I stayed in early October, which is still pretty warm in Seville, and the AC worked perfectly without being so loud you can’t sleep. Honestly, the attention to details like that is what separates a good hotel from one you’d actually recommend to someone whose opinion you care about. The only tiny complaint I’d have is that the elevator is a bit slow – but that’s probably because it’s fitted into a historic building, and frankly, I’d rather have character than efficiency every time. If you’re looking for a place where you can walk to everything worth seeing (the cathedral is maybe three minutes), get genuine local insights, and actually rest well at night, this is your spot. Just don’t expect to find any deals during Semana Santa – book that way in advance or prepare to pay through the nose.
