Hotel Description

You know what struck me first about Plácido y Grata? The name actually means something here – it really is peaceful and pleasant, which is sort of miraculous when you’re smack in the middle of Seville’s old town. I mean, Calle Monsalves is literally a few minutes’ walk from the Cathedral, but somehow this little boutique spot manages to feel like a quiet refuge from all the tourist chaos.

The building itself has that classic Sevillian thing going on – you walk through these heavy wooden doors and suddenly you’re in this gorgeous interior courtyard with traditional tiles and enough plants to make you forget you’re in the city center. The rooms are honestly what you’d hope for in a place like this: high ceilings, original architectural details, but with air conditioning that actually works (trust me, you’ll appreciate this in summer). What I really loved was how they’ve managed to keep the historic character without making you feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The bathrooms are modern, the WiFi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, and the beds are comfortable enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you’ve been sleeping on cobblestones.

Here’s the thing about the location that the booking sites don’t really capture – yes, you’re in the heart of everything, but Calle Monsalves is just off the main tourist drag, so you get all the benefits without the constant noise of people wheeling suitcases over cobblestones at 6 AM. You can walk to the Alcázar in about eight minutes, the Giralda is right there, and honestly, some of the best tapas bars in the city are within a couple blocks. The staff actually knows the neighborhood – they’ll point you toward the little places where locals eat instead of just handing you a generic tourist map. I remember asking about breakfast spots and getting directions to this tiny café around the corner that I never would have found otherwise.

Parking is… well, it’s old town Seville, so forget about driving here. But the thing is, you really don’t need a car anyway. If you’re coming from the airport, just take a taxi or the bus to Plaza de Armas and walk – it’s maybe ten minutes with luggage. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward, none of that overly formal hotel reception desk experience, more like checking into a well-run guesthouse where people actually care about whether you have a good stay. One small thing – the street can get a bit lively on weekend nights (you’re near some popular bars), but it’s more atmospheric than disruptive, and the rooms facing the interior courtyard are perfectly quiet. For what you get – the location, the charm, rooms that feel authentically Sevillian without sacrificing comfort – it’s honestly hard to find better value in this part of the city.

    It was all good

What could be improved: Shower water took a long time to come through hot, wasting water!

  • Elena from United States – 5 June 2025 (10/10)

Stylish, great place with good location in the center of old town

  • Monika from United States – 23 May 2025 (10/10)

Lovely, clean and modern rooms with a boho vibe. Great breakfast. Nice views from the rooftop terrace. Super friendly staff. About 20 min walk from the cathedral. 2 min from all key shopping points. Felt very safe as a solo traveler.

  • Marc from Germany – 13 May 2025 (9/10)

The staff coped well with the blackout (El Apagon)

  • Karen from South Africa – 5 May 2025 (9/10)

The hotel was beautiful and in a great location. The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially Elisa with whom we were in contact before we arrived and who greeted us upon arrival. The room was spacious and clean and the breakfast was fresh and tasty.
The only thing we would suggest is for there to be a box of tissues in the bedroom or bathroom. Other than that everything was wonderful and we would highly recommend this hotel. We look forward to coming back and staying there again in the future.

What could be improved: There were no tissues in the room

  • Lise from Belgium – 22 April 2025 (9/10)

Such a beautiful hotel (and Cafétaria), an oasis of tranquillity in the heart of Seville. Large rooms, great beds and products in the bathroom, good coffee + a delicious breakfast. The whole staff was super friendly and helpful.

  • Mark from Australia – 10 April 2025 (8/10)

Location and atmosphere were very good, close enough to most things so was able to walk everywhere, breakfast was excellent, staff were warm, very approachable and helpful.

What could be improved: Maybe just a little expensive??

Great central location, beautiful building with a lovely courtyard & roof top terrace (that sadly wasn’t in use during our stay). Room was really spacious, quiet & had lovely toiletries. Great breakfast.
