Hotel Description
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to River House on Habana Street, I almost missed it. It’s tucked into this narrow cobblestone street in the heart of Seville’s old quarter, and from the outside, it looks like just another beautifully restored Andalusian townhouse. But step through those heavy wooden doors, and you’re in for something special.
The thing about staying in the old town is that you’re literally living inside centuries of history, and River House gets this balance just right. They’ve kept all the character – those gorgeous tile floors that stay cool even in August, the whitewashed walls that seem to glow in the afternoon light filtering through the courtyard, the wrought-iron details that make you feel like you’re in someone’s elegant family home rather than a hotel. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully luxurious, you know? Everything works perfectly (and trust me, the air conditioning is a godsend during summer), but it doesn’t feel sterile or overly designed. I mean, there’s something to be said for waking up to the sound of church bells from the nearby cathedral instead of traffic noise.
What really won me over was how the staff actually knows the neighborhood. When I asked about dinner recommendations, they didn’t just hand me a generic list – they told me which tapas bars the locals hit up after 10 PM (apparently La Azotea around the corner gets packed with Sevillanos, not just tourists), and they were spot-on about timing for the cathedral visits to avoid the cruise ship crowds. The location is honestly incredible if you want to explore on foot – you’re maybe a three-minute walk from the cathedral, five minutes to the Alcázar, and the Santa Cruz neighborhood is right there with all those winding streets and hidden plazas. Fair warning though: you’ll hear some street noise in the evenings since this area comes alive after dark, but it’s more charming than disruptive (unless you’re a super light sleeper).
The only minor thing I’d mention is that parking can be tricky – the streets here weren’t exactly designed for cars, so you’ll want to use the garage they recommend a few blocks away. But honestly, once you’re settled in, you probably won’t need a car anyway. Everything you want to see is walkable, and there’s something magical about stepping out your door and being immediately immersed in this maze of medieval streets. The 8.9 rating makes total sense to me – it’s the kind of place that delivers on the promise of staying somewhere truly special without trying too hard to impress you.

The hosts were very friendly and hospitable. The property was spacious and tastefully decorated, conveniently located near numerous tapas restaurants, attractions, and cultural shows. It was the perfect choice for our large family.

One of the nicest apartments we've stayed in. A beautiful apartment in a great location, easy walking distance to all sites.

Camps from Spain – 1 January 2025 (9/10)
